Megan Smith

Programs and Outreach Intern | Email

Megan is currently a second-year student pursing her Master of Arts in International Studies at Indiana University. In 2020, she graduated from the University of Evansville with her Bachelor of Arts in International Studies with minors in Business Administration and Spanish. During her educational career, she has become passionate about human rights, atrocity prevention, and the growing global refugee crisis.

Previously, Megan has interned with Christel House International and Lumina Foundation in Indianapolis, Indiana. At Christel House, she spent her time researching, analyzing, and designing a new success metric that the organization will use to determine if its programs and services are achieving its mission. She also coordinated and designed social media posts and newsletters. In addition, Megan’s time at Lumina allowed her to experience the internal side of a non-profit. While with the Finance Department, she audited the foundation’s internal policies, conducted a request for qualifications process, and streamlined the department’s project management tools. Outside of school and work, Megan enjoys hiking, traveling, and taking her dog, Cricket, to the park.

In the future, Megan hopes to continue working for non-profit organizations with a focus on human rights. After working for non-profits for the last two years, she has become attached to working in an environment in which everyone is committed to improving the lives of others and will continue to seek out that environment after graduating from IU. She is incredibly excited to be interning with WACA and is thrilled to help further WACA’s mission to encourage public engagement in foreign policy.
