Susan L. Shirk has spent her life dedicated to covering issues related to China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. She is currently a research professor, chair of the 21st Century China Center, and co-chair of the UC San Diego Forum on U.S.-China Relations. Shirk worked for 3 years as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of East Asia and Pacific Affairs. Her publications have contributed significantly to strengthening the understanding of U.S.-China relations and Chinese politics, most receiving the Roger Revelle Medal in 2015.
