Nationwide, more than 30 local World Affairs Councils host community Academic WorldQuest competitions throughout the year, engaging over 3,000 students in schools across diverse geographic and economic lines.
In teams of four, students study ten AWQ topics with an academically rigorous and fact-based study guide, cultivating critical thinking, communication, and time management skills as they vie for the ultimate prize: representing their communities at the Carlos and Malú Alvarez Academic WorldQuest National Competition in Washington, DC.
Supporting the National Competition
Students are never charged a participation fee for the national competition, which means that sponsor support is essential for keeping this event accessible to communities across the United States.
While in DC, students engage with public officials, gain transformative exposure to college and career opportunities, and expand their global horizons.
Through these experiences, students learn about the impact of careers in the foreign service, economics, and teaching while developing peer support networks that will sustain them throughout their postsecondary education and into their careers.
The 25th annual Academic WorldQuest National Competition takes place in Washington, DC, April 12-13, 2027.
